CREDIT CARD MINIMUM PAYMENT
SHOULD BE AVOIDED
Credit cards are a convenient and easy way to borrow money, but as such it is also very easy to find you have suddenly used
up the entire credit limit you were given by your credit
card company. When repaying your credit balance you have
three options; pay the credit card minimum payment, pay
a set amount or pay off the full outstanding balance.
Ultimately, the choice of how you wish to repay the credit and
which option you can afford will be your own choice. The credit
card company cannot demand that you repay the debt in
full unless they have reason to cancel your credit agreement.
This means that if you want to make just the minimum
monthly repayment every single month then you can.
The minimum monthly repayment is usually equivalent
to the amount of interest accrued plus a small percentage
or a small amount of money. Because you are paying very
little more than just the interest, it means that it will take
you a long time to repay your credit card debt in full.
Recent studies have shown that it can take twenty years
or possibly even more to repay a credit card debt of just
$5,000. Even if you can only afford to pay a little more
than the minimum payment on your credit card you should
try to do so and even if you can only do this every two
or three months, then you should.
Making these extra, small payments will cut down the total
time it will take to repay your credit card debt by a
surprising amount. Obviously, the ideal solution is to repay
the full balance before you are even charged for using
the money in the first place and if you are ever able to do
this then you should.
